Monte-Carlo Spring Arts Festival 2021
Under the direction of Marc Monnet (musician and composer), the festival combines some of music's greatest classics with exclusive contemporary creations. For over 30 years, under the leadership of its President, H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover, the Monte-Carlo Spring Arts Festival has contributed greatly to the cultural life of the Principality. In addition to the artistic events and concerts, the festival hosts a number of side events based around the works performed, the composers featured, and the artists. These include talks given by musicologists as a prelude to concerts, and master classes open to musicians, given by the artists performing at the event.
This year, the spotlight is on creation, with no fewer than four new pieces. The composers are invited to express themselves, displaying their unique sounds. Sebastian Rivas has fashioned a sensualist piece ("Snow on her lips…") for one performer and three instruments, that also includes a variety of objects, electronics and video projections. Frédéric Durieux gives us his second string quartet (Diario Ellittico). Gérard Pesson has created a concerto for the distinctive sound of the accordion ("Chante en morse durable"). And Marco Stroppa shares his six paradoxical études for solo piano.
A real feast for music-lovers!
