"Reefs" Exhibition
As part of its programme of actions to promote awareness and protection of coral reefs, the Oceanographic Museum is staging a third exhibition of works by Monegasque artist Michel Aubéry, from 4 November 2020 to 3 February 2021.
With this year 2020 being dedicated to coral, Michel Aubéry has taken inspiration from coral reefs and the creatures that inhabit them.
He has been working on new pieces since the beginning of the year.

My inspiration comes to me naturally. There's something subconscious about it. Sometimes at night, my dreams give me ideas. Very often, my paintings are already clear and present in my mind. It's spontaneous. I don't need to see other works to express myself.

A native of Monaco, Michel Aubéry began drawing at the age of nine, using pencils and Chinese ink. His first creations depicted dragons and other fantastical beasts.
As a teenager in 1962, his gouache paintings were exhibited for the first time at the Rauch gallery in Monte-Carlo, under the High Patronage of H.S.H. Princess Grace of Monaco.
In 2007, he began painting once again after a meeting with the famous artist and sculptor Philippe Pastor, which inspired him to share his passion.
Since 2009, he has exhibited regularly and this is the third time the Oceanographic Museum has invited visitors to discover his works.
Exhibition of paintings
Almost forty paintings are on display in the Oceanographic Museum's Conference Room, around twenty of them for the first time. All are to do with the sea, the artist's preferred subject. At the Oceanographic Museum's request, he has agree to focus on the world of coral reefs, to create colourful new works.
