Nais
When Pagnol signs a Mediterranean "Romeo and Juliet".
Toine, the hunchback, has no consolation for his handicap except his optimism and his love of life. Also, his love for Naïs the daughter of a violent peasant. Naïs is in love with Frédéric, a young man from a bourgeois family. Summer is coming and the young lovers indulge in pleasures that their social conditions do not allow them...
Originally written by Emile Zola, the novel was adapted for film by Marcel Pagnol. We find there both the power and the cruelty of Zola, coated with vitality and Pagnolesque poetry so that the characters are never where we expect them, continually led by the irresistible desire that leads them towards their destiny.
